The Department of Intercultural Communication and Management hosts a reception in honour of Henrik Schaumburg-Müller’s appointment.
Henrik Schaumburg-Müller is Professor of Business and Development Studies at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) where he is the director of the Centre of Business and Development Studies (CBDS) founded in 2005.Henrik Schaumburg-Müller has an MSc in economics from the University of Copenhagen. Grounded in development economics, Henrik Schaumburg-Müller’s research interests include agricultural development economics, aid evaluation and industrial organisation. However, for quite some time, his focus has been on the interaction between business and development.
Recent books include Transnational Corporations and Local Firms in Developing Countries – Linkages and Upgrading edited together with Michael W. Hansen and Container Shipping and Economic Development – A Case Study of A.P. Moller - Maersk in South East Asia with co-authors Michael W. Hansen and Majbritt Greve.
His research career started with field work in India, which was for many years at the centre of his work. More recently his field research interests have been directed towards Vietnam. He is the project director of a large research cooperation project on international business that includes two universities in Vietnam. In his present research on outsourcing for development he is studying the strategies of Vietnamese firms in their outsourcing relationships. His work on business development in Vietnam includes articles in international journals such as The European Journal of Development Research and Development in Practice.
At CBS Henrik Schaumburg-Müller was the architect behind – and remains strongly involved in – the MSc (cand.merc.int) in Business and Development Studies. This programme attracts a large number of not only Danish but also students from abroad. Henrik Schaumburg-Müller furthermore represents CBS in the distinguished Global Business School Network (GBSN),which is working for cooperation between leading business schools in Europe and North America and business schools in developing countries mainly located in Africa. As an outcome of the GBSN network activities, Henrik Schaumburg-Müller is heading the CBDS team providing inputs to a project supporting entrepreneurship development centres at six business schools in Africa with funds from the International Finance Corporation.
Henrik Schaumburg-Müller has worked extensively as a consultant for Danish and international aid organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America preparing and evaluating development projects and programmes in many sectors, including the private business sector. Some of these experiences have been reported in his contributions to the book Den rige mus og den fattige elefant – 45 års dansk bistand til Indien (The rich mouse and the poor elephant – 45 years Danish aid to India) edited by Folke and Heldgaard.
