Susana Borrás holds a Jean Monnet Chair, and is professor with special responsibilities on innovation and governance. She is member of the Danish Research Policy Council.
Her research as political scientist concentrates on two main areas:
The governance of innovation, with special focus on the design and rationales for innovation policy, the theories and patterns of innovation systems, the politics of the knowledge-based economy, regional and cluster policies, and the legitimacy and democratic aspects of the governance of innovation.
EU governance, with special focus on the new modes of governance (new policy instruments), in particular the Open Method of Coordination, the politics of the Lisbon strategy, the role of the Commission, the changing forms of national coordination, and network governance in the EU.
