Forskningsprofil
Center for the Study of the Americas har til formål at fremme forskning, dialog og diskussion omkring politiske, økonomiske og kulturelle emner i relation til både Nord- og Sydamerika. Også betydningen af udviklingen på de amerikanske kontinenter for Danmark og andre europæiske lande er genstandsfelt for Center forskning.
Centrets forskning er organiseret i tre klynger, som hver især består af et eller flere forskningsprojekter (se særskilt menupunkt):
- Political culture, politics and governance surveys long-term cultural shifts within the US and the countries of Latin America and their impact upon politics. It also considers electoral processes, ideologies, structures and representations of power, the making of public policy, and the character of different government systems.
- Multiculturalism, immigration and identity discourses: this project field analyzes the character of migration processes, and their relation to multiculturalism, identity discourses and human rights in the Americas, taking into account their historical dimension and comparisons with other areas. Identity discourses looks at national, ethnic, political and other forms of identity discourse and the ways in which these are represented and expressed in popular culture and social imaginary.
- Transatlantic studies: the center has played an active role in the creation of the Danish Research Network on Transatlantic Studies. The network wishes to develop a critical research agenda which aims to expand the scope of transatlantic studies, firstly in order to broaden the geographical scope of transatlantic studies and, secondly, in terms of research themes where the network will focus on the impact of transatlantic relations on individual nations – and comparative studies of several nations – as well as on paradigmatic changes on the supranational level and the means of addressing them. The network will also endeavour to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration in order to develop new theoretical and methodological approaches to transatlantic studies and provide a hub for international partnerships and joint research projects. At the center, particular focus within transatlantic studies is on political culture and human rights issues. More information about the network can be obtained from Merete Borch, mb.iadh@cbs.dk.
Centret ønsker i særdeleshed at fremme forskning, som har direkte relevans for erhvervslivet, statslige og andre institutioner, organisationer og medierne. Centret lægger vægt på projekter, som har en integreret, multidisciplinær og transnational tilgang til de amerikanske kontinenter, og som har en empirisk såvel som teoretisk indfaldsvinkel.
Centret søger at styrke forskningsfællesskabet med andre forskere inden for CBS og i resten af landet og arbejder samtidig på at etablere vedvarende samarbejde med forskere i andre europæiske lande og på de amerikanske kontinenter.
