ARC Internal Seminar with Xin Li

China's national Competitiveness

The aim of Xin Li's Ph.D. project is to analyze China’s national competitiveness.
The focus of his analysis is on three topics:
  1. Firstly, is China competitive? Analyzing the current state of Chinese economy by using statistical data, application of the new definition of competitiveness and its 2 dimensions: effectiveness and efficiency.
  2. Secondly, what are the sources of China’s competitiveness? Analyzing how China is doing at the three levels (macro level – economic structure, middle level – internal structure of industry, micro level - firms),how China’s economic reform and opening up gradually improves its competitiveness.
  3. Thirdly, is China’s competitiveness sustainable? To improve its competitiveness is one of China’s goals of its overall reform and opening up. Can China achieve this goal? Using ‘Diamond + Triangle’ model to analyze the potentiality (opportunities and challenges facing China).
