Prerequisite/progression of the course
Editing is an important part of the writing process. The CBS Research as a Second Language (RSL) writing workshops intend to give you a sense of the deep potential of editing by focusing on small samples writing submitted by participants. The workshops are run by Thomas Basbøll, who is the resident writing consultant in the department of Management, Politics and Philosophy, and who has a broad base of experience as an editor of academic texts.
Course content, structure and teaching
We work on one sample each time consisting of no more than one page of prose (14 points, double-spaced, Times New Roman). The idea is not to criticise what a writer is trying to say, but to discover ways of saying it more effectively. Along the way, such work also offers opportunities to review basic rules of grammar and elements of style. These workshops are an ideal opportunity to improve both your academic English and your general writing skills.
There will be sixteen two hours workshops each semester, to be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 13:00 to 15:00 starting in February. We will make an effort to accommodate the schedules of the participants in the selection of exact dates. The first meeting will be held on 3 February, 2009 in room 4.125.
Enrolment
Maximum six participants. PhD students from the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy will be given priority. To register, please contact Anja Dupont no later than 30 January 2009. Feel free to contact Thomas if you have any questions.
